Weight management has never been just about the number on the scale.

Dr. Adam Rubenstein, a board-certified plastic surgeon, shares how integrating MetPro into his practice creates sustainable results for patients seeking more than a quick fix.

His approach combines medical oversight with structured coaching, proving that real transformation comes from long-term habits and accountability.

Crystal: Welcome to the MetPro Method Podcast. I’m your host, Crystal O’Keefe. Today we have MetPro client Dr. Adam Rubenstein with us to share his journey with MetPro. Welcome, Dr. Rubenstein.

Adam: Thank you. I’m happy to be here.

Crystal: I’d love to hear about your background, what kind of doctor you are, and how you found MetPro.

Adam: I’m a plastic surgeon, and I’ve recently decided to add weight management to my practice. A lot of clinics approach weight management by prescribing GLP-1s and calling it a day. Those medications can help in the short term, but that is not how I run my practice. I take a holistic approach and wanted something sustainable for the long term, because you cannot stay on medications forever.

I discovered MetPro at a conference. It made sense to me because there is synergy between our weight management work and our body contouring services. I looked into MetPro and we are working together to add it as a core part of our program.

Why GLP-1s Alone Fall Short

Crystal: When someone uses only a GLP-1 versus a holistic approach that includes MetPro, how do those paths differ?

Adam: GLP-1 medications work. They change physiology in ways that make weight loss more likely. We are also learning about benefits beyond weight. But they are not a complete plan. Some practices write a prescription, check in periodically, and call that weight management. I think that is inadequate and not a long term solution.

“You have to come off the drugs eventually. Within one year of stopping, patients often regain about two thirds of the lost weight. My goal is to give patients a method and system they can sustain for life. That is where MetPro is invaluable.”

Building a Complete Patient Intake

Crystal: What does your intake and program look like in practice?

Adam: We start with a full history and physical. We look for health issues that could be contributing, and we assess stress and lifestyle. If someone is a good candidate for weight management, we discuss medication and non-medication paths. Today, medications can be a safe and effective boost, so many people choose to start with them. Either way, we build a comprehensive plan.

We collect baseline data. Patients receive 2D and 3D photography to document the entire body. We add circumferential measurement scans at intervals to track change objectively. We do body composition analysis with the newest InBody machine. We order labs to check things like thyroid function. For patients around menopause, we evaluate hormones to see what role they may play.

We also introduce a device called Lumen to assess metabolic fuel use. It helps us see if someone is burning more carbs or fat. There is a role for both, but timing matters. If you wake up burning mostly carbs, that can suggest too many carbs the day before or eating too late at night. Data like this supports behavior change.

Why Coaching is the Cornerstone

Adam: The core of sustainability is MetPro. All patients start a MetPro program. The first month of concierge coaching is critical. Coaches identify what is going well, what needs to change, and why. People often think they eat healthy, but specifics matter. Coaches guide adjustments so metabolism becomes an asset. After weight loss, goals can shift to building muscle or refining body composition, and MetPro supports that with both nutrition and training guidance.

This takes nutrition and training coaching off my plate and puts it in the hands of experts. I handle the medical side and quarterback the process. The fun part is follow up. The scale tells part of the story, but scans and body composition show the real change. We see visceral fat come down and skeletal muscle go up. There is more to success than a weekly injection and a weigh in. With this approach, when patients come off medications, they are in a better place and have a lifestyle that supports their new health.

Crystal: You have been using MetPro yourself. What has your experience been like?

Adam: I felt it was important to use it myself before recommending it. I travel a lot and lecture internationally, so my diet habits were not great. I often ate one large meal at night and skipped breakfast and lunch. My coach gave me accountability and helped me transition to multiple meals and snacks during the day. The app and coaching made it doable. Without the coach, I do not think I would have had the motivation or accountability to make the change. With a coach checking in weekly, sometimes more, I stuck with it.

Crystal: What advice do you have for busy people who struggle to follow a plan, especially with travel and unpredictable schedules?

Adam: Start with baby steps. If you are eating one meal a day, move to two. Keep it simple. My breakfast became a high protein shake and fruit. It was easy to grab on the way out. Then we added simple snacks. Lunch felt foreign to me because I was always on the go, but step by step it became normal.

It seems impossible at first because you have been doing things a certain way for years. But you are making a commitment to improve your health. That requires change. The process is easier than you think once you take small steps.

Crystal: Have you noticed a change in energy?

Adam: Yes. I feel it most when I miss my planned meals. For example, I had a surgery day from morning until 8 PM with no break. On days like that I only get breakfast and a late dinner. The difference is obvious. When I fuel throughout the day I feel much better. Interestingly, I am eating more often and still losing weight.

I do not think most people doubt the science. Eat well, train consistently, and you lose weight. The skepticism is about whether they can follow through. Coaching bridges that gap.

Crystal: How are your patients responding as you add MetPro?

Adam: We are launching now, and I am confident MetPro will be the centerpiece of our program’s success.

Crystal: Anything MetPro does that surprised you and you plan to keep?

Adam: Eating regularly has been a pleasant surprise. I have been on the program about three weeks and I am still learning what works best for my lifestyle and preferences. The app has flexibility. You can build meals to meet macros in many ways, which makes compliance realistic.

Closing

Crystal: What should people know about your practice or MetPro?

Adam: The drugs work, but they cannot do everything. They are not a long term plan. MetPro is an excellent partner for sustainable results, even without medications. For full transparency, I did not use medications during my own trial. In about three weeks I am down roughly eight pounds. I did not have a lot to lose, and I am already more than halfway to my goal. No medications, same workouts as before, just better nutrition structure and a tuned metabolism. Patients who choose not to use GLP-1s can still make rapid progress by adopting the lifestyle. Patients who do use them get a boost, and MetPro helps them maintain results when they taper off.

Crystal: Where can people find you?

Adam: Google Dr. Adam Rubenstein. I am active on social media. On Instagram, find me at @DrRubenstein. You can also visit my website and call the office. We are in South Florida and we also work with remote patients. We offer a more comprehensive program than most, and we are happy to help.

Crystal: Any final thoughts?

Adam: Thanks to my coach. MetPro is great as a system, but having a personal coach is a game changer. If you are self motivated, the app plus occasional calls can work. If you have time constraints or more inertia, the concierge level and a dedicated coach make a big difference. My advice is to start with a coach. After a while you can go on autopilot, but that initial support sets you up for success.

Crystal: Thank you for joining us. Listeners, that is all for this week. You can find all MetPro Method episodes wherever you get podcasts, or at MetPro.co/podcast. Please follow, rate, and review the show. I’m your host, Crystal O’Keefe. I’ll be back in a couple of weeks with a new episode. Until then, remember, consistency is key.
